Lynwood Village won two awards last week, scooping Gold in the What House Awards 2015 for Best Retirement Development and Most Outstanding Retirement Village 2015 at the UK Over 50s Housing Awards. The judging panel of the What House Awards complimented Lynwood Village calling it ‘an incredibly well-designed community with a great team on hand to help its ageing population thoroughly enjoy retirement’. The judges also praised the village’s buzzy atmosphere, spacious and well-designed properties and the peace of mind that comes from knowing that care is available when needed.
Designed by KWL Architects in conjunction with BEN, the automotive industry charity that owns and runs Lynwood, the physical environment and the support structure within the village are designed to make life easier for over 65s. Older people living in well-designed homes, like those at Lynwood, with the appropriate support in place can avoid unnecessary hospital admissions and be discharged from hospital faster, which reduces the pressure on local health providers. The opportunities for social contact within the village, both organised and spontaneous, also bring an end to the loneliness and isolation experienced by so many older people.
Graham Sweetinburgh, Sales and Marketing Manager for Lynwood Village commented, “Our residents will tell you that the quality of life here at Lynwood is very high and that the facilities here really help improve physical and emotional wellbeing, but it’s great to have the independent endorsement of these awards. It really puts Lynwood Village on the national map as a leading example of retirement village design, which truly takes into account the needs of older people.”
The second phase of the village is now under construction and due for completion in 2017. People from the local community are welcome to use shop, restaurant and coffee shop, beauty spa and hair salon at the village.
