While Team GB is busy scooping medals left, right and centre in Rio, we’ve been entering into the Olympic spirit here at Lynwood. Residents have been competing in a range of events since last Tuesday, culminating in an all-day pentathlon this Thursday.
The Lynwood Village competition kicked off with a breathtaking display of skill on the short mat bowls. If there was a senior Olympic bowls team, some of our residents would most definitely be on it.
Later that same day it was time for the mini-snooker challenge, played on the full-sized snooker table in the atrium. There was a noisy crowd in attendance, watching the play as they enjoyed coffee and cake from Prescott’s Coffee Shop.
Thursday saw two more Mini Olympics events in the form of golf and croquet as residents gathered outside on the croquet lawn to show off their putting skills. We won’t reveal the winners’ names but let’s just say there is a pattern emerging with one person dominating the podium.
Today it’s time for beach ball water polo which takes place in the swimming pool. Regular attendees of our Aqua Fit classes, run by our in-house physiotherapy team, are sure to have an advantage in this event so we know who our money’s on to win.
Later today we’re looking forward to table tennis in the Berkshire Suite, which is sure to be a closely fought contest as some of our residents are keen ping pong fans. Our fantastic Mini Olympics finishes on Thursday with an all-day pentathlon where competitors will shoot six basketball hoops, walk an egg and spoon race, play a cup stacking game, throw beanbags at a target and do a word search against the clock. These inclusive activities will enable anyone to participate.
Medals will be presented at a ceremony on Friday where we will all reflect on a fun two weeks, enjoying being with Team GB in spirit! Well done to all our competitors and our amazing events team who have worked so hard to make this event such a success.
